BRE and CSUS-GBRC will partner to develop dual-certification system of green buildings in China scheme and BREEAM scheme.
BRE (the Building Research Establishment) and CSUS-GBRC (CSUS Green Building Research Centre) have announced a partnership that will deepen the mutual understanding of each other’s green building scheme. Eventually, the two organisations will strive to achieve the conversion of the corresponding scores and mutual recognition of the two standards.
The signing ceremony was held on 17th Jan 2019 in Shanghai, Niall Trafford, CEO of BRE, and (CSUS) signed the Memorandum of Understanding under the witnesses of authorities and industry experts.
Niall Trafford commented that it is a huge step forward in promoting building sustainability standards. He said:” Through the mutual-recognition of our two green building standards, we can achieve great improvement and deepen our partnership with China authorities and government.”
Meng Chong, the director of CSUS Green Building Research Centre, also highly evaluated the significance of the MOU signing. He said:” The cooperation with BRE is hugely important to us, especially at the time of upcoming 3rd version of Three Star System Standard.” He expected CSUS and BRE could work closely on dual-certification to help good building practices to go abroad.
After the signing process, Guo Zhenwei from GBRC, established the important role of CSUS as a national think tank in urban development field. And as the earliest national authorised green building evaluation institution, CSUS-GBRC consistently leading the standard research and execution.
Gary Zhao, Business Development Manager of BRE, also gave a short introduction of BRE and BREEAM. As one of the first established building research organizations in the world, BRE has a strong science and technologies background. As one of its products, BREEAM scheme has a wild recognition and support around the globe.
CSUS-GBRC is the research and develop department of Chinese Society for Urban Studies. Its main responsibility is the quality audit of buildings’ sustainability in China, standardize of green buildings, green buildings’ research, consultant and training.
BRE Group is the largest UK charity dedicated specifically to research and education in the built environment. BRE is a globally trusted authority providing independent consultancy, research, testing, certification and training services in the built environment. Its BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) was established in 1990. It is one of the most widely used green building assessment standards in the world.
